Prosecutors and Court Records
Kentucky uses County Attorney and Commonwealth's Attorney roles instead of a "District Attorney" title. Madison Criminal Access Limits
Criminal court records are often public, but the research file identifies several limits. Juvenile records are confidential under KRS 610.340. Sealed or expunged records should not appear as ordinary public records. Adoption, mental-health, medical, victim, protected-address, minor, Social Security number, and financial-account details may be restricted or redacted.
KRS 431.073 addresses selected felony conviction expungement, while KRS 431.079 defines expungement's effect for official state-performed background checks. Kentucky's open-records provisions, including KRS 61.871, support public access in general, but they do not override every court confidentiality rule.
